Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as a public speaker. She was the creator of Feminist Frequency the site that features videos and comments on the representations of women in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning feminist media critic from Canada, as well as a blogger. Feminist Frequency is a website designed to provide education on women's roles in pop culture, is managed by Sarkeesian. She's dedicated to breaking down stereotypes of women and the way they appear in popular media. She also seeks to educate people about cyber-bullying targeting women and marginalized groups of society. A graduate in social and political thought at York University Sarkeesian is also a much sought-after public speaking engagement and has given speech at TEDxWomen's XOXO Festival as well as at the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. At a young age Sarkeesian was intrigued by gender issues and feminist theories. As a student, in 2009, she launched the Feminist Frequency web site. It was the time to release a set of online videos that examined the gender representations in video games at the time she came under the sway of online bullying. It didn't deter her from pursuing the project, and instead reinforced her commitment to be feminist media critic.
